John V. Meigs Jr. was born and raised in Los Angeles. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Stanford University in 1991 and a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1995.

Meigs was admitted to the California bar and began practicing law in 1995 as a general litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis. After a year in private practice, he served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins in the Central District of California.

In 1997, Meigs returned to private practice and joined Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges, where he specialized in entertainment litigation, representing studios and individual clients in the motion picture and television industries. In 2000, he transitioned to entertainment transactional work when he joined the legal affairs department of Twentieth Century Fox Television.

In 2001, Meigs joined the Beverly Hills entertainment boutique firm now known as Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox LLP. He is a partner who represents writers, actors, directors and producers in motion pictures and television.

His clients include Issa Rae and Prentice Penny, creator and co-showrunner, respectively, of “Insecure”; Jay Ellis, who appeared in “Insecure” and “Top Gun: Maverick” and stars in the upcoming ABC series “The Rookie: North”; Kaley Cuoco, who starred in “The Big Bang Theory” and “The Flight Attendant”; Damson Idris, star of “Snowfall” and co-star of “F1” and the upcoming “Children of Blood and Bone”; Winston Duke, who appeared in “Black Panther” and “Us”; and Steven Caple Jr., director of “Creed II” and “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and director and executive producer of Netflix’s “Man on Fire” series.
