AI Legislation Unpacked: Insights into Brazil’s Proposed Bill
Join the HLS Brazilian Studies Association for our March lunch talk as we explore Brazil’s proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bill currently under discussion in the Brazilian Congress.
In 2020, the Brazilian Senate proposed the country’s first comprehensive Bill to regulate AI. The ongoing discussion has questioned what the “Brussel’s Effect” means for Brazil, what is the best way of regulating the use and development of the technology, and what should be expected from the Legislative body in the matter.
At the lunch talk, you will learn about the proposal’s objectives, scope, and its potential implications for various stakeholders with Fabricio da Mota Alves, who was part of the 2022 Senate Commission responsible for drafting a new AI Bill and has been actively involved in the current parliamentary discussions, and Veronica Deviá, MPA Candidate at Harvard Kennedy School with vast policy experience in the technology sector in Brazil.
