Applications should be submitted to the Chayes Fellowship Program (c/o International Legal Studies) no later than January 31, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. Applications must include the 2022 Chayes International Public Service Fellowship application form and a copy of the student’s resume or curriculum vitae.

Although it is not necessary to have a confirmed placement before applying for the Chayes Fellowship, the application should demonstrate a thoughtful, considered and proactive approach to planning a summer project with an organization based abroad. Applicants should be able to articulate the way in which their proposed summer placements will help them achieve their particular educational, professional and personal objectives. We encourage students to begin seeking a placement early , and applicants should have been in contact with potential placement organizations by the time the Chayes Fellowship program holds interviews with applicants in early February.

Students who are interested in placement organizations that could be sponsored by either the Chayes Program or HRP may apply to both programs, using the application form below.  Please note that applicants who are accepted by the Chayes Fellowship, and have obtained a placement through the list of pre-approved Chayes Fellowship placement organizations, are expected to undertake those placements as Chayes Fellows.

Applications and correspondence should be sent to:

The Chayes Fellowship Committee
c/o Sara Zucker, International Legal Studies
ils@law.harvard.edu (email)

The Chayes Fellowship application process also includes an interview. Interviews for 2022 Chayes Fellowships will take place on February 2, 3, and 4, 2022. To schedule an interview, applicants should complete the interview section of the Chayes Fellowship application; a Chayes Fellowship staff member will contact you to confirm an appointment.

Reminder: applicants for Chayes Fellowships must also apply (separately) for HLS Summer Public Interest Funding (SPIF), which is a prerequisite for participation in the Chayes Fellowship program. See Summer Public Interest Funding on the Student Financial Services website for more information.

Please see this Chayes Fellowship timeline for an overview of the application process.
