Arnaaz Nizami Ameer

She/her

Arnaaz is a third-year S.J.D. candidate from India. She loves to write poetry and fiction, perform at open mics across Cambridge, host dinners for friends, learn new languages, and collect tea and coffee from around the world. She researches and writes on the laws of war and the intersection of international law and private law on remedies. Before HLS, she lived across Delhi, Beijing, and Geneva, working at international organizations and in non-profit advocacy, consulting, and government. Reach out to Arnaaz if you want to discuss creative writing projects, share new recipes, or talk about the fate of the world and our place in it while sampling her tea/coffee collection!

Emmanuel Berrelleza

Emmanuel Berrelleza is a 3L at Harvard Law School. Before HLS, he worked as a teacher at his former high school. Emmanuel earned a master’s in Comparative and International Education from University of Oxford as well as a BA in Government and English from Dartmouth College. He is interested in working at the intersection of law and education after law school. In his free time, Emmanuel enjoys swimming at the MAC and nonfiction writing.

Anika Gururaj

Anika Gururaj is a 3L at Harvard Law School. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Communications from the Annenberg School for Communication and a concentration in Activism and Advocacy through the College of Arts & Sciences. Anika came straight through to law school, where she participated in the Harvard Mediation Program, and serves as a Team Leader for the Harvard Law Entrepreneurship Project. In her free time, Anika enjoys exploring the Boston food scene and would welcome any residents to join her on an outing!

Diego Haro

Diego is a 2L from Sacramento, California. Before HLS, he graduated from Yale with a BA in Global Affairs and went on to work in civil rights, government consulting, and policy research. At HLS, Diego is involved with the Tenant Advocacy Project, Harvard Immigration Project, Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, and La Alianza, and will be a part of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. In his free time, he enjoys watching stand-up and improv comedy, playing intramural sports, and running along the Charles.

Kayla is a 2L from Queens, New York. After graduating from The University of Chicago, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Spanish, Kayla worked as a paralegal handling cases ranging from civil rights claims to criminal defense matters. At HLS, Kayla has been involved with the Prison Legal Assistance Project, the Latin American Law Review, the Caribbean Law Students Association, and other meaningful pursuits. In her free time, you can find Kayla at an art museum, going on a hike, or learning different languages. Kayla is looking forward to getting to know the residents of North Hall!

Langdon is a 2L from Raleigh, North Carolina. He graduated from the United States Military Academy and spent time as a Marshall Scholar in the United Kingdom and as a Military Intelligence Officer. At HLS, Langdon is involved with the Environmental and Energy Law Program, Environmental Law Review, Mississippi Delta Project, and Tenant Advocacy Project. In his free time, Langdon likes exploring Boston and the greater New England area, spending time with his friends, and playing Settlers of Catan.

Sonam Rustagi

Sonam is a 2L at Harvard Law School. She is from Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate and graduate degrees focusing on environmental science. At HLS, Sonam is involved with SALSA, TAP, and student government. In her free time, Sonam enjoys exploring green spaces and Boston, trying new restaurants, completing crosswords, and binging sitcoms.

Iqra is a sixth-year S.J.D. Candidate from Pakistan. She loves coffee (pictured), lifting weights, painting, and baking. Her research interests include Family Law, Gender and the Law, and International Human Rights. In the Summer of 2024, she taught “Sexuality, Gender and the Law” at Northeastern University School of Law. She loves organizing events and get-togethers, so if you have ideas do let her know!

Xavier is a 2L from Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2024 and joined HLS after taking a gap year. During that time, he worked as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company in Washington, D.C. His legal interests include law and economics, corporate governance, and election law. In his free time, Xavier enjoys reading history, watching sports, and walking around our beautiful campus.

Simran Surtani

Simran is a 2L from Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Global and Public Health. Before law school, she spent two years as a paralegal at a civil rights firm in San Francisco, working on federal class action litigation on behalf of incarcerated people with disabilities. At HLS, Simran is involved with the Prison Legal Assistance Project, the Harvard Mediation Program, and the Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. In her free time, Simran enjoys kayaking, spending time with friends, and dog-watching in parks around Cambridge.

William Yee

William is a 3L from Northridge, California. Before law school, he worked on investment screening policies at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, France. He graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and East Asian Studies and received a master’s degree from the Paris Institute of Political Studies in International Governance and Diplomacy as the 2022 laureate of the Michel David-Weill Scholarship. He is interested in U.S. foreign relations in East Asia and international trade law. In his free time, he loves traveling, playing tennis and squash, watching stand-up comedy, and writing fiction.
