Harvard Law School’s Joel Alicea ’13 and J.B. Tarter ’09 were recently named to Forbes 2012 “30 Under 30” list. The list acknowledges the high achievement of 30 individuals under age 30 in 15 categories. Both Alicea and Tarter, along with Dan Shoag, assistant professor of public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, were featured in the Law and Policy category.
Describing the honorees as “today’s disrupters and tomorrow’s brightest stars,” Forbes magazine stated: “In sum they represent the entrepreneurial, creative and intellectual best of their generation. Individually, they are engaging, surprising and incredibly hardworking.”
Alicea, 25, graduated summa cum laude from Princeton. He is president of Harvard Law School’s Federalist Society. This summer, he worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Dallas. Next year, he will clerk on the Ninth Circuit. He has published articles in the National Review Online, National Affairs, the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, the Loyola Law Review, Policy Review and Public Discourse.
Tarter, 27, earned an associate in arts degree at 16, then graduated summa cum laude from Emory University. After graduating from HLS, Tarter second-chaired a winning Supreme Court case as a junior associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. He is currently serving as assistant general counsel at the Defense Intelligence Agency.
