Thanks to Peter Trooboff ’67, a plaque now marks the building in Lviv, Ukraine, where his mentor international law Professor Louis Sohn LL.M. ’40 S.J.D. ’58 spent part of his childhood in the 1930s. Trooboff helped to raise funds for the plaque and spoke at the unveiling ceremony in November. He is pictured with Sean Murphy of George Washington and Lori Damrosch of Columbia (from left) and Philippe Sands of University College of London (far right). All were part of a conference and workshop at which Sohn, a passionate supporter of the U.N., and two other former residents of Lviv who were important contributors to international law and human rights, were honored with plaques in the Ukrainian city.
Trooboff, senior counsel at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., writes, “It was a great honor not only to ensure [Louis Sohn’s] memory for all who visit that street in Lviv but also to visit Lviv University and walk the very halls where he would have attended classes as a student in the 1930s prior to arriving at Harvard Law.”
