President Barack Obama ’91 has appointed Rita Hauser ’58 and Roel Campos ’79 to serve on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB). As members of the PIAB, Hauser and Campos will provide the President with independent advice on the effectiveness of the U.S. intelligence community.
Hauser, who served on the PIAB from 2001 to 2004, is an international lawyer and former senior partner at the New York City law firm, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan where she was a senior partner for more than twenty years. Known for her public service and philanthropic work, she is president of The Hauser Foundation and she chairs the International Peace Academy (a research organization affiliated with the United Nations) and the Advisory Board of the International Crisis Group.
Hauser was the founding chair of the Advisory Board of the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy. She has served as a director of many organizations, including: The International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, the RAND Corporation, the International Advisory Council of The Lowy Institute for International Policy, Sydney, Australia; and the International Board, The Center for International Governance Innovation (Canada).
Hauser currently serves on the Visiting Committee of Harvard Kennedy School and on the Dean’s Advisory Board at Harvard Law School. She holds advanced degrees from the University of Strasbourg in France, Harvard and NYU Law Schools, and the University of Paris Law Faculty.
Campos is currently the partner-in-charge of the D.C. office of Cooley Godward Kronish. Prior to joining Cooley, he was a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, acting as a liaison to the international regulatory community. Campos was one of two principal owner-executives of El Dorado Communications, a radio broadcasting company, at its headquarters in Houston, Texas, before joining the Commission.
Campos began his career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. After attending Harvard Law School, he worked in Los Angeles, Calif., for major law firms as a corporate transactions/securities lawyer and litigator. Beginning in 1985, Campos served as a federal prosecutor for five years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. He then returned to private law practice for several years before co-founding El Dorado Communications, Inc.
Recognized as one of the top Latino leaders in America, Campos is a founding member of the New America Alliance, a Latino initiative for raising awareness of investment opportunities in the Latino sector in the United States. In addition to his degree from HLS, Campos earned a B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an M.B.A. from UCLA.
