Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has chosen six Harvard Law School alumnae to be honored as “Top Women of Law” this September in Boston.  The award seeks to highlight the work of women who are trailblazers, educators and role models in their fields and who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in social justice, advocacy and business.

The HLS award winners are:

S. Elaine McChesney ’78, a partner at Bingham McCutchen who focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on banking, complex financial transactions and commercial fraud

Janis K. Fraser ’85, a principal at Fish & Richardson who provides strategic patent advice to clients ranging from startup biotech companies to multinational pharmaceutical corporations to academic institutions

Marcia Wagner ’87, owner of The Wagner Law Group which specializes in ERISA, employee benefits, executive compensation and estate planning

Karen Green ’81, a partner at WilmerHale who concentrates on complex business litigation, including the defense of white-collar criminal and False Claims Act litigation

Raya S. Dreben ’54, an associate justice on the Massachusetts Appeals Court

Melissa Bayer Tearney ’91, a partner at Choate Hall & Stewart who represents individuals and corporations in criminal matters for the Government Enforcement & Compliance Practice Group

The honorees, numbering 36 in all, will be celebrated at a luncheon on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Hynes Convention Center. The event will be hosted by television journalist and documentary film producer Liz Walker, who is an alumna of the Harvard Divinity School.
