In response to a rise in courthouse arrests and recent government-field motions to terminate immigration cases to put individuals into expedited removal proceedings, MLRI, MIRA, and community advocates have mobilized a court watch effort to ensure accountability at the Boston and Chelmsford Immigration Courts. Through this effort, volunteer attorneys and advocates have been trained in how to observe proceedings, document concerns, and support due process for unrepresented individuals in the immigration courts.
If you are interested in getting involved, see the Massprobono.org posting to access the virtual training and find out how to volunteer for court watch shifts and access court watch resources.
Eligible for HLS pro bono credit. If you end up volunteering contact Lee Mestre (lmestre@law.harvard.edu) in the HLS Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs about HLS pro bono credit.
