Become an Alumni Mentor
OPIA is seeking public interest alumni to serve as mentors through our Mentor Matching Program for the upcoming academic year. Mentors provide students with the opportunity to connect with experienced attorneys who can share guidance, insights, and support as they navigate law school and explore public interest careers.
New in 2026
This year, the program is available to JD students across all class years. While we expect most student mentees to be 1Ls, you may get matched with an upper-class student. In addition, students will be able to sign up to be matched with an alumni mentor at any point during the academic year. This will give more students the opportunity to connect with alumni and to do so at a time when they would find such a connection most helpful.
What to Expect
- If you’re interested in being matched with a student, register here.
- Once OPIA matches you with a student, you will receive an email sharing their name, email, and some background information on your mentee. The onus is on the student mentee to reach out to schedule the initial conversation, but we ask alumni mentors to please reply within a few days.
- From there, every mentor/mentee relationship is different, but we ask mentors to commit to at least 2-3 touchpoints over the course of the academic year.
Complete the registration form to volunteer. Based on an initial survey of the class of 2029, there seems to be a wide range of interests, so we encourage participation from alumni mentors with all backgrounds.
Thank you for considering this opportunity. If you have any questions please OPIA.
