Parenting and Autism: A Journey for Support and Awareness
In the special edition series of episodes, we address relevant topics for our community.
In this 5 part series, we will talk about Parenting and Autism. We will have input from Ellen Shapiro-Smith, Melissa Maher, Melissa Minaya and Allison Patenaude who will be telling us about their personal experiences with Autism as a parent.
We will learn from each guest about their journey, from searching for the diagnose, learning about correct treatment, reactions from relatives and close friends and acquiring appropriate school settings for their children. They also share their unique experience adjusting to their children’s place in the Autism broad spectrum as well as monitoring their challenges and progress.
In the 3rd episode, Edgar sits down with Melissa Minaya to learn about her story of raising her child, learning about herself in the process and understanding the impact of her cultural background.
This Tell Me Your Story – Special Edition is focused on the topic of Autism and does not offer professional mental health or medical advice to our listeners. This is a community engagement effort to bring greater Autism awareness through the personal stories and individual experiences of our guests
The goal of this podcast is to introduce folks to HLS staff members from across the community. You may recognize the names of some guests, and if you don’t, that’s okay! We hope that you will tune in to learn more about your colleagues—what their role is, what makes them tick, and why they do the work that they do at HLS. If you’re interested in being a guest, please let us know—we would love to hear your story. Our stories bring us together; we come from different backgrounds and serve all different roles, but our shared community at HLS unites us. Let us hear your story!
