Ligia Hernandez, HUDS

In this episode, Edgar sits down with Ligia Hernandez from HUDS. Ligia was born in Colombia in a beautiful small town called Florida Valle that sits between two rivers. Her father had a property outside of the town where he would grow vegetables among other things. She lived most of her childhood there and went to a private catholic schools for girls only most of her school years up to college. She went to college in Cali, a much larger city 20-30 minutes from her town, and there she had the first experience of a mixed genders school. She felt it was not an easy experience to start because most of her school years she spent with the same friends and cousins. In college everything was new and different. She has a sister 16 years younger than her, who she considers like a daughter, and who was born at the time she was going to college which also added to her difficult time being away from home but she made it work and pursued her degree in business international.

Ligia tells us about different parts of Colombia, big cities where her father used to visit while traveling with the family. This is a habit she kept and does the same with her husband and children nowadays and as often as she can. She also describes the difference between Bogota, Cali and Medellin and the typical food served for each place.

While still in college, Ligia found a job at the airport working for and air company which gave her the chance to come to a training in Miami. She took a couple of days off to visit some cousins in Boston where she found many folks from her country and fell in love with the city. She graduated from college and decided to move to Boston.
