Joan Roca
Executive Chair and Partner
RocaJunyent
Joan Roca arrived at Harvard Law School Executive Education just as his firm had started a major succession process. Keenly aware that leadership transitions can be challenging, he was looking for concrete ideas and key management indicators to guide the firm. The Leadership in Law Firms program gave him a new framework for thinking about how the firm’s strategy, structure, and leadership fit together, offering much‑needed clarity and direction.
Roca credits the time he had to reflect on new ways of thinking and to share ideas with colleagues as having a direct, positive impact on the firm. Since that period of leadership transition, there has been a renewed sense of collective vision among the firm’s leaders, reinforcing a culture built around teamwork and shared responsibility. The firm has also experienced its strongest performance, built on a foundation of trust among partners and clients, with annual growth in the double digits for consecutive years and many strategic objectives achieved ahead of schedule.
To Joan, 2025 felt like the right time to return to Harvard Law School Executive Education “to stop and think”, to ensure that we did not fall into the trap of believing that past success guaranteed future success. He enrolled in The Future of Legal program both to stress test the firm’s new strategic plan and to explore new ideas with peers facing similar challenges, ensuring the firm remains in a process of continuous transformation rather than relying on past success.
As with Leadership in Law Firms and the Smart Collaboration Master Class, Joan again left Harvard Law School Executive Education with critical insights and practical tools he could put to work immediately with his colleagues.
Across these programs, he has come to see that the pressures he feels are not his alone, but part of a broader reality in law firm leadership, and that he now has both a lasting peer network and concrete tools to meet them.
