Voting Rights After Callais

Callais decision and its impact on voting rights in the United States. Five months ago, the Supreme Court’s decision in Callais rewrote the rules for challenging discriminatory voting maps—and reshaped what’s possible under the Voting Rights Act. Professor Charles will walk us through: (1) the voting rights landscape before Callais, (2) what the decision actually did, and (3) the legal and political responses being floated—plus what to watch for in the midterms.
