October 30, 2026
12:20 pm - 1:30 pm
Langdell Hall; 225 Vorenberg Classroom - North
What does it mean to interpret the Constitution and statutes according to their original meaning, and how have originalism and textualism evolved over time? Join the Federalist Society for a lunchtime conversation between Judge Steven Menashi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Professor Stephen Sachs of Harvard Law School. Drawing on the history and development of these interpretive approaches, our speakers will explore their intellectual foundations, their place in contemporary jurisprudence, and the challenges of applying them in modern courts. The conversation will consider both the enduring principles and evolving debates that have shaped originalism and textualism, and what their future might hold. Lunch will be served.
