Judging on State and Federal Courts: A Tale of Two Systems — Judge Britt Grant and Professor Jack Goldsmith

October 27, 2026

12:20 pm - 1:20 pm

Pound Hall; 102 Classroom

What distinguishes judging on a federal court from judging on a state court? Join the Federalist Society for a conversation between Judge Britt Grant of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Professor Jack Goldsmith about the differences between state and federal judicial systems. Drawing on Judge Grant’s experience serving on both the Georgia Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit, the discussion will explore the distinct roles of state and federal judges, differences in judicial decision-making, and the relationship between state and federal law. Lunch will be served.
