A Hopkins poll says nearly half of Americans believe that members of the opposing party are “downright evil”. With political violence on the rise, American democracy is in trouble if we cannot learn to see the humanity in the people with whom we disagree.  Harvard Psychology Professor Joshua Greene and his team have created Tango, a cooperative online quiz game that turns members of opposing groups into teammates. Their research, recently published in Nature Human Behaviour, reports on five randomized controlled trials showing that playing Tango for less than an hour reduces political animosity, with positive effects lasting four months. In August, over 1,000 members of Harvard College’s incoming Class of 2029 played Tango at orientation, with high enjoyment ratings and positive effects on openness to people with opposing views and comfort expressing controversial views on campus. If you’re feeling a little wary of where our country is headed, come play Tango with your HLS peers over lunch! Professor Greene has customized a set of quiz questions relevant for law students and there may even be prizes… Lunch will be providedRegistration Required.
