The “China Initiative,” launched under the Trump administration, led to the wrongful prosecution of Chinese American scientists, including MIT Professor Gang Chen. With discussions of its possible revival, this talk will explore its legal and social impact, its effects on the scientific community, and what its return could mean for U.S.-China relations.

- Patrick Toomey, ACLU’s National Security Project Deputy Director, who has defended scientists targeted under the initiative.
- Professor Gang Chen, MIT Mechanical Engineering, who was wrongfully prosecuted under the China Initiative.
- Professor Yasheng Huang, MIT Sloan School, expert on China’s political economy and U.S.-China relations.
