Here are two hypothetical aid package examples to illustrate how we met demonstrated financial need at Harvard Law School for 2014-2015.
Please note: The 2015-16 student budget and aid packaging formula has not yet been approved by the Financial Aid Committee.
|Eligible for HLS Grant||Eligible for Loans|
|(need greater than $44,300)||(need less than $44,300)|
|minus||Assessed Student Resources||$5,000||$5,000|
|minus||Assessed Parent Resources||$12,000||$40,000|
|Grant Aid Package||Loan Aid Package|
|Federal Direct Stafford Loan||$20,500||$20,500|
|plus||Most Favorable Available Loans||$23,800|
|plus||HLS Grant Eligibility||$20,600|
|equals||Total Financial Aid Award Offer||$64,900||$20,500|
|plus||optional Supplemental Loan*||up to $18,000||up to $61,400|
|equals||Total Financial Aid Eligibility||up to $81,900||up to $81,900|
* Remember: Student Financial Services awards a basic financial aid package to meet the level of need demonstrated by the assessed student and parent resources. If your parents will not be contributing to your education expenses, it is possible to borrow in replacement of the entire parent resource assessment amount through a supplemental education loan program.
It is also possible to borrow to replace all or a portion of the assessed student contribution, but borrowing to replace assessed student resources is not eligible for future loan repayment assistance through LIPP.
The upper limit on optional supplemental loan borrowing is the Student Budget; in other words, your total financial aid cannot exceed your approved budget.
