Joshua D. Rovenger

Josh Rovenger is the Legal Director of GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law). In this role, he leads GLAD Law’s legal strategy and work to advance its mission of promoting justice for LGBTQ+ people, including by steering GLAD Law’s litigation, legislative, and policy work.
Prior to joining GLAD Law, Josh served as Associate Counsel to the President in the White House, with a specific focus on racial justice and equity. Within the Biden administration, he advised the President and senior administration officials on policies and litigation related to LGBTQ+ equity, democracy and civic engagement, religious freedom, access to justice, veterans’ affairs, and housing.
Josh has extensive legal expertise across various sectors, having previously worked as a Supervising Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, where he led economic justice litigation and systems change advocacy, and as a Senior Attorney at the Project on Predatory Student Lending at Harvard. He also held senior and associate roles at prominent law firms.
Josh graduated from Harvard Law School in 2013 and started his legal career clerking for Judge Michael A. Ponsor of the District of Massachusetts and Judge Jeffrey R. Howard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
