The History and Future of Corporate Law — Judge Matthew Schwartz (2d Cir.)

November 4, 2026

12:15 pm - 1:20 pm

Pound Hall; 102 Classroom

Join the Federalist Society for a conversation with Judge Matthew Schwartz, newly appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, about the history, evolution, and future of American corporate law. Before joining the bench in July 2026, Judge Schwartz was a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he represented major corporations and financial institutions in complex litigation involving securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and financial regulation. He previously clerked for Justice Samuel Alito on both the Third Circuit and the Supreme Court. Drawing on his extensive experience in corporate litigation and his new perspective from the federal bench, Judge Schwartz will explore how corporate law has developed, the changing relationship between businesses, regulators, and the courts, and the legal questions likely to shape its future. Lunch will be served.
