magine, all the Black faculty of Harvard University are meeting about Harvard’s lack of tenured, Black faculty members when, BOOM — the building is bombed. After the tragedy, the school is finally ready to talk about race and change. Can Harvard only decide to make change after a tragedy? Is a tragedy enough to fix the underlying, racial hierarchy in Harvard’s structure? How long can “tragedy change” last before we’re back to business as usual?
