Evidence of Genocide in Ukraine: Acts, Intent, and the Targeting of National Identity

Four and a half years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, evidence of Russia’s genocidal acts and intent continues to grow. The International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard Law School (IHRC), International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), and additional subject matter experts have conducted extensive analysis of Russia’s conduct in Ukraine, identifying hundreds of potentially genocidal statements by Russian actors—from senior officials to soldiers on the ground—and assessing evidence of Russia’s widespread, systematic, and brutal acts against Ukrainian civilians under the relevant legal standards. This event will present their legal and factual findings of mounting evidence that Russia is committing genocide against Ukrainian nationals. The talk will also address Moscow’s long-standing pattern of targeting Ukrainian national identity, and situate the current conflict in that broader history. Lunch will be provided.
