Empowerment Self-Defense with Impact Boston

IMPACT teaches empowerment self-defense. No specific level of fitness or prior experience is required. We teach people practical verbal and physical skills they can use to assess potentially vulnerable situations and incapacitate an assailant enough to get to safety. We believe in bodily autonomy, and that each of our students knows themselves best, so we approach our classes as a way of offering up tools, and trust students to decide what works for them and their desired lifestyle.
Workshops are hands-on and utilize experiential learning. Just as you learn to swim by getting in the water, you learn self-defense by practicing it! Workshops are typically taught by two instructors. One acts as a coach, walking the participants through realistic role play scenarios once they’ve been taught the basic skills. The other plays the ‘character’ of an assailant. The participants (that choose to) then have the opportunity to practice out loud and full force. Learning in this way helps train the brain to recall the learned skills under times of stress. It’s like developing muscle memory for your brain in a short period of time.
Please wear clothing that would allow you to practice the hands-on exercises and wear closed-toe shoes. This event is open to HLS Faculty, Staff, and Students. RSVPs are required and spots are limited. Please register today!
