Bar Exam Accommodation Information

Students who plan to request testing accommodations on the bar exam can familiarize themselves with the deadlines for the most common bar exam jurisdictions for HLS students below. Links to those jurisdictions’ accommodation webpages are also provided for students to familiarize themselves with the application requirements. If your bar exam jurisdiction is not listed below, you can find a list of all the jurisdictions’ main bar exam webpages here to learn more about their specific accommodation application requirements and deadlines.

Many states have early deadlines for accommodations information and it may take time to gather and process the necessary documentation, so give yourself plenty of time to complete this.

Please also keep in mind that HLS’ process of providing accommodations is not necessarily reflective of the process for receiving testing accommodations on the bar exam.

MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam)

  • 2024 MPRE Accommodation Deadlines

    March Exams: December 5, 2023 (Tuesday)

    August Exams: April 24th (Wednesday)

    November Exams: July 24th (Wednesday)

    *The NCBE advises individuals requesting accommodations to submit their request as far in advance of their desired test administration as possible.

    *Do NOT register for the MPRE until you have received your accommodation determination letter from the NCBE as it will provide instructions on how to schedule your test appointment with your accommodation at a Pearson VUE testing center.

California

  • CA July Bar Exam Accommodation Application Deadlines

    June 1st of that year

    *Must be received by the date above.

    *If a deadline falls on a nonbusiness day, the deadline will be the next business day.

    *Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to file their request for testing accommodations well in advance of an examination they intend to take. Applicants who wait to file their requests near the final filing deadline for the examination they intend to take generally are not able to exhaust all administrative remedies before the exam, such as requesting review of a denial of some or all of the requested testing accommodations.

    *Filed separately from the Bar Exam application.

Colorado

  • CO July Bar Exam Accommodation Application Deadlines

    Timely Filing Deadline: April 1st

    Late Filing Deadline: May 1st

    *The Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Admissions (OAA) encourages applicants to prepare their request for accommodation far in advance of their desired exam administration, and no later than the Submission Dates, in order to facilitate a timely notification of the decision. Applicants will be notified by OAA if additional documentation is required to complete the request for accommodation.

    *Plan to submit your accommodation request when you submit your application.

District of Columbia

  • 2024 DC Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    May 9, 2024 at 5:00pm ET

    *Accommodations requests are submitted with your completed bar exam application.

    *Late requests will not be accepted.

Florida

  • FL July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Timely Filing Deadline: May 1st (Postmarked)

    Late Filing Deadline: June 15th (Received)

    *The applicant request for test accommodations must be completed in its entirety and submitted with the bar exam application.

    *Because some of the accommodation request forms require input from third parties, the appropriate individuals should be asked to complete the forms well in advance of the deadline.

Illinois

  • IL July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Timely Filing Deadline: February 15th

    Late Filing Deadline: April 1st

    Final Filing Deadline: April 30th

    *Requests for Testing Accommodations must be submitted with the paper portion of the Bar Exam Application.  The are not electronically filed.

Maryland

  • MD July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Must be received by May 20th

    *Applicant’s Accommodations Request form and documents should be mailed or delivered separately from their Bar Application.

    *Applicants are strongly advised to submit their request for ADA test accommodations as early as possible.

    *If there is a deficiency in the request, but is cured by the applicable filing deadline or by any extended deadline granted by the Board, the Board will consider the Accommodations Request for the upcoming bar exam. If the deficiency is not cured by the deadline or by any extended deadline granted by the Board, the Board will deny the request.

Massachusetts

  • MA July Bar Exam Accommodation Application Deadlines

    April 1st

    *Applications for testing accommodations may be submitted up to six months before the exam to which you are applying.

    *Applications for accommodations are not submitted with the bar exam application.

New Jersey

  • NJ July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    April 30th

    *Applicants are encouraged to file as early as possible

    *All documentation must be received by the application deadline for your application to be processed.

New York

  • NY July Bar Exam Accommodation Application Deadlines

    March 31st

    *Must be received by the date above, not by postmark.

    *Applicants may now complete the Application for Testing Accommodations online by logging into their NY BOLE account through the Applicant Services Portal. The online application will not be deemed submitted until all required supporting documentation is electronically uploaded to the Board, which must be done by the posted deadlines.

    *The Application for Testing Accommodations is separate from the Bar Exam Application

    *Applicants can apply for accommodations for both the NY Bar Exam and NYLE at the same time.

  • 2024 NYLE Accommodation Application Deadlines

    September 19th Exam: June 21st deadline (Friday)

    December 19th Exam: September 20th deadline (Friday)

    *Must be received by the date above, not by postmark.

    *Applicants may now complete the Application for Testing Accommodations online by logging into their NY BOLE account through the Applicant Services Portal. The online Application will not be deemed submitted until all required supporting documentation is electronically uploaded to the Board, which must be done by the posted deadlines.

    *The Application for Testing Accommodations is separate from the NYLE registration.

    *Applicants can apply for accommodations for both the NY Bar Exam and NYLE at the same time.

Pennsylvania

  • PA July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Timely Filing Deadline: April 15th

    First Late Filing Deadline: April 30th

    Second Late Filing Deadline: May 15th

    Final Late Filing Deadline: May 30th

    * Applicants are strongly advised to not wait until the Final Late Filing Deadline to apply because if they receive a denial from the Executive Director they will not be able to file an appeal of the determination to apply to the current examination, as insufficient time exists for a hearing and Board decision on the matter.

    *When you submit your bar exam application, make sure you answer “yes” to the question “Do you require Nonstandard Testing Accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)” so that the PA Board is aware that you have uploaded documentation to support a request for NTA and know to review it.

Tennessee

  • TN July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Application Deadline: May 1st

    Final Deadline: May 20th

    *Applicants must complete the Request for Non-Standard Testing Accommodations by the Application Deadline (5/1) so that the TN Board will have sufficient information to notify them of any missing items. Applicants will have until the Final Deadline (5/20) to complete the application process.

    *Form 1 is now part of the TN Synergy Application and a separate upload of the form is not required.

    *To meet the Final Deadline and complete the application process, applicants must have uploaded the required documents to their Synergy Application unless an item is required to be provided directly to the TBLE by a third party, in which case, those documents must be mailed or uploaded by the third party so that it is received by the TBLE on or before the Final Deadline. If an applicant uploads a document that must be provided directly to the TBLE from a third party, the document will not be deemed filed.

Texas

  • TX July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Application Available: December 4th of previous year

    Timely Filing Deadline: February 1st

    Late Filing Deadline: April 1st

    *Requests for Testing Accommodations must be submitted with a Bar Exam Application, but no later than the Late Filing Deadline (April 1st).

Washington

  • WA July Bar Exam Accommodation Request Deadline

    Any applicant requesting accommodation for a claimed disability must ask for such accommodation through the online admissions site at least 80 days prior to the examination date.
