The United States and other governments are treating an ever broader range of issues as national security concerns. These shifts are sparking new attempts at regulation and bringing new actors to the fore as de jure or de facto regulators. This reading group will explore evolving conceptions of national security, new types of security regulation with a particular focus on technology and data, and the growing role of U.S. states and the private sector in national security.
