Spring 2025 Reading Group

The Constitution and the Idea of Progress

Prerequisites: None

Exam Type: No Exam

This reading group will consider different perspectives on the idea of progress and the light that they might shed on central debates about constitutional law. Do different schools of constitutional interpretation reflect different premises about the arc of history? What conception of progress, if any, undergirds “progressive” constitutional theory? We will consider these and related questions through discussion of readings drawn from constitutional theory, philosophy, and history.

Note: This reading group will meet on the following dates: TBD.
