Law, Business, and the Public Good

Prerequisites: Corporations as pre- or co-requisite. To waive the prerequisite, students can enroll by permission of the instructor (please send an email to Professor Tallarita, including a CV).

Markets and corporations have a complicated relationship with the moral and political values of liberal societies. This readings-heavy seminar will explore this relationship through a variety of lenses: economic, doctrinal, historical, and philosophical.

Topics may include: invisible hand and morality; markets and moral sentiments; is big business good or bad for society?; contract law and distributive justice; capital markets and climate change; corporate purpose and ESG; and corporate political spending.
