This reading group will address some pressing questions in the world of artificial intelligence and the law: Who is benefitting from the development and use of AI systems? Who is responsible when those systems cause injury or harm? And what happens if those are not the same party? In some cases, we will find answers in well-established legal doctrines – in others, we will have to write our own rules. Over six sessions, we will discuss the intellectual property implications of algorithms, models, and their outputs; liability for incorrect or unlawful advice given by generative AI; how to provide recourse for harms caused by autonomous vehicles; detecting and correcting for algorithmic discrimination; and more.
