This course dives into the hardest questions in the field of constitutional law. Taught through close readings of cases in the areas of substantive due process, equal protection, federalism, and separation of powers, the course will engage the full range of contemporary approaches to the Constitution, such as: history, originalism, and living constitutionalism; critical readings of the Constitution through the lenses of race, class, gender, settler colonialism, and empire; conservative constitutional thought including Catholic constitutional theory and common good constitutionalism; political economy and the Constitution; constitutional pragmatism; and more.
