Abstract: The article argues that the only way for the United States to exit Iraq with any hope of leaving the country and region intact is to push a political solution to the insurgency. U.S. politicians have shifted their rhetoric from the original argument that war would provide a space for democracy to democracy being the only thing that will put an end to war.
