Ruth Greenwood, Don't Forget the Humble Election Worker, SSRN (Apr. 23, 2025).
Abstract: In terms of election administration, the 2024 presidential election went pretty well. Not because we’ve fixed the complexities of running elections, and certainly not because we developed a foolproof method to ensure trust in elections. Rather, we owe the relative tranquility of the 2024 U.S. election to a herculean effort by government, business, media, non-profits, and academics over the past four years to provide the scaffolding to support election workers at their lowest ebb. Impressive though this was, our work is not done. We need a long-term plan to support election workers so they can keep our elections smooth and our democracy vibrant.
