Texas Disaster Legal Help provides legal information to disaster survivors but also contains a pro bono portal – Simple Justice -to help mobilize pro bono student and attorney volunteers. This project is a joint effort between Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA), Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT), and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) aimed at improving access to justice for disaster survivors. This multifaceted project allows both disaster survivors and pro bono attorneys to access key resources in one place while at the same time making it easier to connect disaster survivors needing legal help with volunteer attorneys willing to provide it. The three legal aid agencies post disaster cases, clinics and training opportunities on the portal. This includes cases associated with natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the site provides a Knowledge Resource Library, filled with disaster-related training videos, sample forms and instruction sheets developed by disaster law subject matter experts. (The opportunity postings may be limited now, but should pick up soon.)
