Lael Weinberger, the Olin-Searle-Smith Fellow in Law and Lecturer on Law, is looking hire a research assistant to help him research religious liberty in American history. He is currently focusing on the invocation of religious liberty as a defense in tort or criminal suits prior to the incorporation of the First Amendment against the states (early twentieth century and before). Ideally, a student will have some prior interest in and exposure to First Amendment law and/or American legal history.
