I am looking for a research assistant to help me with a book project. The provisional title of the book is From Protest to Law: Triumphs and Defeats in Struggles for Racial Justice, 1948-1968. It seeks to describe how the American legal order was changed by the protests against racial mistreatment that erupted between, approximately, the election of Harry S. Truman and the election of Ricard M. Nixon. I have written about 800 double-spaced pages. I estimate that I have another 800 pages to go. While I have a variety of assignments in mind, the most important will consist of close readings of my manuscript to alert me to errors or omissions. Send me a resume. Bring to my attention courses you’ve taken or research you have done that makes you familiar with mid-twentieth century American history, particularly the racial struggles of the period.
