Korey is from Tucson, Arizona and has long been interested in international and environmental law issues. He received a B.S. in sustainability and a minor in political science from Arizona State University, where he focused on renewable energy generation. Before coming to law school, he spent a year in the eastern Turkish city Erzurum, teaching English to engineering university students and doctors on a Fulbright ETA grant. At HLS, he continued to focus on environmental issues through coursework and article editing with the Environmental Law Review. He spent his first summer working in Accra, Ghana at the Center for Public Interest Law. While there, he worked on pro bono cases for low income Ghanaian’s whose property and environment were damaged by mining and gas projects. For his second summer, he worked on energy law issues at the Environmental Defense Fund in Washington, D.C. Most of his work at EDF focused on research and writing on electricity generation in Cuba.
