Kelly Jo Popkin has been awarded a PSVF fellowship to work as a traditional staff attorney in Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s national office in NYC, focusing primarily on federal and state litigation and policy work addressing anti-choice extremism, Medicaid cuts, and TRAP laws. Prior to this fellowship, Kelly Jo served as a James Vorenberg Equal Justice Fellow at Planned Parenthood of California, where she assisted the General Counsel in drafting and passing legislation to protect abortion providers from security breaches and invasions of privacy. Kelly Jo also served as the United States Policy and Advocacy Fellow at the Center for Reproductive Rights, assisting the Washington D.C. office in its lobbying efforts to lift public insurance coverage bans on abortion, provide free over-the-counter contraception, and address clinic violence targeting abortion providers and clinic patients.

At Harvard Law School, Kelly Jo was a student attorney at the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, where she worked with CHLPI students and staff to draft a successful motion for a preliminary injunction against a state Medicaid agency, file a Supreme Court amicus brief in the Zubik case, and submit a complaint to the Office of Civil Rights detailing HIV discrimination in the ACA marketplace. She also worked as a student attorney at the Family Law and Domestic Violence Division of the Legal Services Center, providing representation for child custody disputes, child support proceedings, and other direct legal assistance to survivors of gender-based violence.  Prior to law school, Kelly Jo worked and volunteered at four New York City-based nonprofits providing social and legal assistance to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Kelly Jo is a graduate of Harvard College, with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies.
