Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Spring 2023 Independent Clinical

An independent clinical opportunity is available in the Legal Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for the Spring 2023 semester.  Depending on the needs of the Legal Department and the student’s interests, general responsibilities are likely to include research and analysis, preparation of legal memoranda, assistance with criminal and oversight investigations, and trial preparation, among other things.  The work may include matters arising out of the Bank’s technical research into central bank digital currency systems as well as matters related to the operation of emergency lending facilities established under the CARES Act.  There may also be some discrete assignments on other legal topics during the semester.

This is a two-step application process:

1)    First students must submit an application to the Federal Reserve Bank; the application deadline is Friday November 18, 2022. Students should submit a resume and cover letter to Liz Solar esolar@law.harvard.edu.  Applications will be sent by Prof. Tarullo to the Federal Reserve Bank for their review and selection.

2)    Once a student is  selected by the Federal Reserve Bank, the student will be required to submit an independent clinical application.
Spring Independent clinical applications are due by January 20, 2023.   You will not earn academic credit without submitting the independent clinical application.
This placement will preferably be for 3 credits (meaning 12 hours of work per week during the semester), though a 2 credit placement (8 hours per week) may be possible.  Professor Tarullo will be the faculty supervisor. In advance of applying to the Federal Reserve, please consult: https://hls.harvard.edu/clinics/independent-clinical.  Please note: Students on F-1 visas are not eligible for Independent clinical credits.
