The figure of Abraha m\, known primarily from the Book of Genesis\, is often described as the co mmon father of Jews and Christians and thus the founder of a “Judeo-Christi an tradition.” Judaism and Christianity have\, however\, often interpreted the Abrahamic narratives of Genesis in ways that are different and sometime s diametrically opposed. To complicate the picture even more\, some current s in both traditions sound themes that are actually more characteristic of the other one\, and this should warn both communities against oversimplifyi ng their own heritage—and that of the other community as well.
The Salon offers a space and opportunity for dial ogue and inquiry around critical theological questions. Featuring guest spe akers with expertise in particular areas of Christian theological inquiry\, The Salon invites and challenges the Harvard community to engage\ , consider\, and debate biblical ideas that continue to shape the course of history\, our society\, values\, and lives.
