Please join Finnegan attorney Paul Browning for a conversation about IP cases at the Supreme Court. In its current term, the United States Supreme Court will consider several significant cases relating to intellectual property issues. This talk will focus on two cases, Jack Daniels Properties, Inc. v. VIP Products LLC and Amgen v. Sanofi. In the first case, Jack Daniels argues that a dog toy that parodies its iconic whisky bottle improperly infringes on its trademark rights. This case will resolve important questions relating to parody and trademark rights and how these disputes are adjudicated by the Courts. In the second case, Amgen argues that its patent claims directed to a ground-breaking cholesterol-lowering medication were improperly invalidated for lack of enablement. This case will address one of the most hotly disputed issues in patent law, relating to inventions that are claimed based on their function, rather than just technical features.
This talk is intended to be accessible to all, including those who know nothing about intellectual property law.
