The Institute to End Mass Incarceration was launched at Harvard Law School in the summer of 2021. Its mission is to radically decarcerate the United States by helping to build and strategically deploy collective, community based power toward decarceral ends. To do this, the Institute works to support and build bridges between community organizers and lawyers, with a particular focus on helping public defenders develop movement-orientated modes of practice. The Institute runs a clinic at HLS co-taught by its directors, Professors Andrew Crespo and Premal Dharia. Applications for the spring-semester clinic are due by October 14. HLS Students interested in learning more about the Institute and the clinic are invited to join an information session at 12:15 in WCC 1015, where Professors Crespo and Dharia will describe the Institutes main projects and answer student questions.
