Molly Worthen is a professor of history at the University of North Car olina at Chapel Hill\, where her research and teaching focuses on North Ame rican religious and intellectual history. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University. Her most recent book\, Spellbound (2025)\, is a history of charisma as both a religious and a political con cept from the Puritans to the Trump era. She has created audio and video co urses for The Great Courses and Audible\, and writes abou t religion\, politics\, and higher education for the New York Times\, The A tlantic\, and other publications.
