On October 12 at 7 PM EST, please join HIALSA’s first hybrid lecture, “International Arbitration: Challenges & Evolution,” co-sponsored with Singapore International Arbitration Centre! Grab & Go dinners and snacks will be served.

In this lecture, Chan Leng Sun, SC (joining via zoom) will identifies key problem areas that practitioners, arbitrators and arbitral institutions have to address if arbitration is to remain relevant. He surveys recent developments, such as international commercial courts and international mediation, that offer alternatives to users. He recommends that our work processes evolve, in line with technological advances as well as environmental concerns. For those who have some miles yet to travel in their careers, Mr Chan considers whether international arbitration is still a field fertile with opportunities.

Mr Chan’s lecture will be followed by a moderated discussion by Ms Jenny Liang, HIALSA’s former president, with Ms Adriana Uson (visiting in-person), the Head of SIAC Americas. This will be a timely opportunity to hear about the recent opening of SIAC Americas, institutional perspectives from SIAC case management, and developing an arbitration career.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, access to HLS buildings will be limited to HLS and Harvard community members.
General public are more than welcome to join via zoom by registering in advance here: https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_IRYYHjFLSQCI5ZaZ9o-__Q.
