y dining together does more than just fill our stomachs—it nurtures our min
ds and bodies. According to a study published in the annual World Happiness
Report\, “People who eat more meals with others tend to be more satisfied
with their lives and are more likely to express positive emotions.” The aut
hors of the report indicate that “sharing meals is as predictive of happine
ss as income or employment status — across ages\, genders\, countries\, cul
tures\, and religions.” But the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ American Time U
se Survey found that “Americans are spending more and more time dining apar
t.” “In 2023\, roughly 1 in 4 Americans reported eating all of their meals
alone the previous day\,” the study said\, “an average increase of 53 perce
nt since 2003.”

A doctoral student in public policy at Harvard Kenned
y School and one of the co-writers of the report\, Micah Kaats\, will be pr
esenting more about the findings from the report and unveiling the latest r
esearch on dining with others. If you’re curious about happiness and well-b
eing\, this presentation will offer some fascinating insights.

HUID h
