Over the summer\, the Supreme Court — with its ruling in Cisco v. Doe — closed the door on reco gnizing modern international human rights law claims under the Alien Tort S tatute\, overturning the Court’s Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain decision and reversing a line of cases dating to 1980. This panel will examine the r easoning and implications of the Supreme Court’s decision\, including how i t is affecting pending cases in lower federal courts and discussing what al ternative pathways remain available in U.S. courts for accountability for h uman rights violations.
