Please join HLS Advocates for Human Rights and the Human Rights Program for a conversation with human rights attorney and activist Thomas Becker, who will be discussing his latest book entitled “Coup: A Story of Violence and Resistance in Bolivia.” Thomas is a former Clinician at the International Human Rights Clinic and is currently a lawyer at University Network for Human Rights. He played an instrumental role in bringing the landmark Mamani v. Sánchez de Lozada case against the former Bolivian president and his defense minister for extrajudicial killings and torture of the indigenous Aymara community, which marked the first time that a former head of state sat before his accusers in a civil human rights trial in a U.S. court. Lunch will be provided.
