Please join us in welcoming Professor Van Z. Krikorian for a discussion about the Baku show trials and the Armenian/A rtsakh genocides. More than a century after the Armenian Genocide\, this ta lk turns to the case of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to illustrate a troublin g reality: existing legal frameworks remain insufficient to prevent\, addre ss\, or adequately remedy mass atrocities in the twenty-first century. The challenge that Professor Krikorian raises is to confront and reverse these increasingly damaging trends\, reform that is essential for the protection of civilian lives in the face of atrocities that are\, with increasing freq uency\, met with neither accountability nor meaningful compliance with esta blished international standards.
Professor Krikorian is an Adjunct Pr ofessor at Pace Law School\, attorney\, and Chair and CEO of Global Gold Co rporation. He served as Armenia's Deputy Representative and Counselor at th e United Nations in 1992 and on the Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commiss ion from 2001 to 2004\, and was awarded Armenia's Medal of Honor in 2017. H e has testified before Congress on numerous occasions and has spent decades advocating on human rights issues\, including authoring key provisions of the Freedom Support Act and the Foreign Assistance Act.
