Please join us in welcoming Professor Van Z. Krikorian for a discussion about the evolving legal landscape surroundin g genocide recognition with a focus on Armenia. More than a century after t he Armenian Genocide\, this talk turns to the case of Artsakh (Nagorno-Kara bakh) to illustrate a troubling reality: existing legal frameworks remain i nsufficient to prevent\, address\, or adequately remedy mass atrocities in the twenty-first century. The challenge that Professor Krikorian raises is to confront and reverse these increasingly damaging trends\, reform that is essential for the protection of civilian lives in the face of atrocities t hat are\, with increasing frequency\, met with neither accountability nor m eaningful compliance with established international standards.
Profes sor Krikorian is an Adjunct Professor at Pace Law School\, attorney\, and C hair and CEO of Global Gold Corporation. He served as Armenia's Deputy Repr esentative and Counselor at the United Nations in 1992 and on the Turkish-A rmenian Reconciliation Commission from 2001 to 2004\, and was awarded Armen ia's Medal of Honor in 2017. He has testified before Congress on numerous o ccasions and has spent decades advocating on human rights issues\, includin g authoring key provisions of the Freedom Support Act and the Foreign Assis tance Act.
