Judge Stephanie Agli Gallagher was born in 1972 in Rockville\ , Connecticut. She attended Georgetown University and graduated magna c um laude in 1994. She was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She recei ved her JD degree\, cum laude\, from Harvard Law School in 1997.
Upon graduation from law school\, for two years\, Stephanie served as law clerk to then-Chief Judge J. Frederick Motz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. From August 1999 to December 2001\, Stephanie worked as a litigation attorney at the la w firm of Akin Gump in Washington\, D.C.\, where she handled both civil and criminal cases. In January 2002\, Stephanie was appointed an assistant U.S . attorney for the District of Maryland\, where she served until September 2008\, prosecuting criminal cases ranging from fraud to violent crime. In O ctober 2008\, Stephanie co-founded Levin & Gallagher LLC\, a litigation bou tique handling both civil and criminal matters.
In 2011\, Stephanie was appointed a U.S. magistrate judge for t he District of Maryland. She continued in this position until 2019\, when s he was nominated by President Trump to be a U.S. district judge. After bein g confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Sept. 11\, 2019\, Stephanie received her commission on Sept. 13\, 2019.
Steph anie is a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Bar Association\, Maryland Chapter\, and a member of The Barristers Law Club\, The Lawyers’ Round Table and The Wednesday Law Club. In addition\, she is a member of th e bars of the U.S. Supreme Court\, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit\, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S . District Court for the District of Columbia
