John F. McKenzie is an international trade and corporate lawyer who practiced with Baker & McKenzie from 1976 through 2025. Based primarily in the firm’s San Francisco office\, he also worked in Taipei in 1978 and Cara cas from 1978 to 1979.
John’s practice focused on international trade regulation\, international commercial transactions\, anti-corruption matte rs\, and international corporate compliance. His work included advising cli ents on U.S. export controls\, anti-boycott regulations\, economic sanction s\, import regulations\, and the protection of intellectual property rights .
Before beginning his legal career\, John served in the United State s Peace Corps in Aguacatán\, Huehuetenango\, Guatemala\, from 1970 to 1973. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Williams College in 1968 and a J.D. fro m Harvard Law School in 1976\, where he served on the Harvard Law Review an d was Articles Editor from 1975 to 1976.
John has written extensively on international trade and compliance issues. His recent publications incl ude United States Export Controls on Internet Software Transactions\, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Compliance Issues for Import/Export O perations\, and Section 301 Duty Mitigation Strategies.
