David E. White Jr. is Vice P resident for Strategy and Operations at Flagship Pioneering\, which invents and builds platform companies\, each with the potential for multiple produ cts that transform human health\, sustainability\, and beyond. White served as the 14th Deputy Director of the Peace Corps\, unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He previously held senior roles across the Biden-Harris Ad ministration\, including Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of State fo r Management and Resources\, Special Assistant to the President in the Offi ce of Presidential Personnel\, and Senior Advisor on the National Security Council for Operation Allies Welcome. At the NSC\, he helped coordinate the whole-of-government effort that delivered housing\, health care\, educatio n\, and employment support for nearly 90\,000 Afghan allies resettled in th e United States. Prior to joining the White House\, White served on the Bid en-Harris Transition Team.
White began his public service as a cavalry officer in the U.S. Army. He led a scout platoon in Kandahar\, Af ghanistan\, during Operation Enduring Freedom\, and after being wounded in combat\, served as second-in-command of the Warrior Transition Unit at West Point\, supporting the recovery and reintegration of wounded\, ill\, and i njured soldiers. His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal\, Purple Heart\, and Combat Action Badge.
A graduate of the U.S. Mili tary Academy at West Point\, White earned his law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School. He clerked for Judge Paul J. Watford on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and practiced at Wachtell\, Lipton\, Rosen & Katz in New York City before entering government. Born in New York ’s Hudson Valley\, he now lives in Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, with his fam ily.
